If you have a problem joining the E-Group then send an email to info @ cambridgetango (adding .com to the end of this) saying why you want to join the E-Group.

Notes for posting to this E-Group

This E-Group is for Tango in Cambridge:
  • exchange addresses, photos, shoes, memories, opinions, ...
  • get a lift to a tango venue
  • be nostalgic about tango you have experienced
  • be vervacious about tango adventures yet to happen
  • find a dance partner for a class/workshop
and is also, certainly, for discussion of tango.

The E-Group is moderated and posts which are insulting/aggressive to an individual or group of people will not be approved. Most likely a re-write will be suggested. There is a limit to free-speech.

Notes for Tango Organisers Who Wish to Use the camtango E-Group

The camtango E-Group is moderated.

This E-Group is the carrot to encourage constructive, co-operative competition between tango organisers/events in Cambridge, UK.

The rules for tango organisers who wish to post to camtango are that postings must:

  1. originate from an organiser: people will, invariably, hit the reply button in their email software and it is much better that replies go directly to the organiser(s)
  2. be correct
  3. be easy to read
  4. specify at least the time, date, venue and price
  5. potentially include a link(s) to further information
  6. be timely: pending postings to camtango are not checked every day and it can sometimes yahoogroups.com can be rather slow to send out mail to everyone (we've seen delays of up to 2 days, before). Therefore please post at least a few days in advance of when you want the posting to actually go out
  7. not be like spam. For example: post once about a regular event if there is something a little special about it , post twice about a special regular event, post once a fortnight about a very special event (start of a new regular event, visiting teachers, all-night-milonga, etc.) in the future, post a few times about one-off classes/workshops.
  8. be from a "communicative and co-operative" organiser (see below)

Communication and Co-operation Requirements for New Tango Organisers to use the camtango E-Group

If you wish to organise a new tango event in Cambridge (regular or one-off) AND post to this E-Group about what you are doing then please communicate with the other, current, tango organisers to make sure you do not clash/negatively affect with what someone else is doing and to create goodwill (maybe the other organisers will be happy for you to distribute leaflets/make announcements at their events?). Practically this means it is your (the organiser's) responsibility to contact other tango organisers in Cambridge who post to this E-Group to check what you are doing is OK with them for either a one-off event or a regular event (obviously you only need to do this once for a new regular event).
Known tango organisers in Cambridge who use the camtango E-Group to post about events.

The way things have evolved any established organiser of tango events in Cambridge has veto over a new organiser using the E-Group. The onus is on the new organiser to communicate with established organisers. Any disputes will be dictatorially dealt with by the moderator of the E-Group.

Who are you to set these rules?
We've done the work of maintaining and promoting this E-Group since December 2000: approximately 2 hours per week.

Why an E-Group?
We could have created a closed email list, but decided to open things up to the Cambridge Tango Community provided the camtango E-Group is used for a very specific purpose: Tango in Cambridge and co-operation of tango organisers.

Phew, that is a lot, why do I have to bother?
You do not. If you wish to organise tango events in Cambridge and not use the camtango E-Group please go ahead. If you do not want to announce what you are doing/handout leaflets at other tango events in Cambridge then please do as you wish.
BUT, if you choose communication and co-operation then you could join a tango community where all organisers "win" and, we hope, the end result is that all tango dancers can enjoy themselves.

To post to the camtango E-Group (once you have joined it) simply send email to: add .com to the end of : camtango at yahoogroups

There is also an E-Group that covers Tango in the UK. If you like to tango in other places then you may wish to join it:
