Notes for posting to this E-Group

This group is for the Cambridge tango community.

For Cambridge tango dancers, past and present to:

  • exchange addresses, photos, shoes, memories, opinions, ...
  • get a lift to a tango venue
  • be nostalgic about tango you have experienced
  • be vervacious about tango adventures yet to happen
  • find a dance partner for a class/workshop

The general rule is that you can post emails to this group that are about tango in Cambridge (UK) and that respect the laws of the UK regarding free speech (no slander, libel, sexism or racism, etc.). To achieve these aims this E-Group is moderated, therefore posts sometimes take a while to be approved (the moderation is shared amongst several people). Ideally you should allow at least 3 days for a posting to be approved.

Notes for organisers of tango in Cambridge who wish to use the camtango E-Group to advertise events (incl. social dancing, special events, practices, classes, courses, visiting teachers, etc.)

Tango in Cambridge was founded on a basis of collaboration and community, and we request that you, as an organiser of tango in Cambridge, will join in a spirit of co-operation that exists between tango organisers in Cambridge. What this means in practice is that we communicate with each other in advance about future events we are planning. In our experience of the last 10 years it is better if big events (such as visiting teachers, a special milonga for example) are spread evenly throughout the year. For example having two sets of visiting teachers in Cambridge in close succession could cause both organisers to lose out financially (which no-one wants) as people cannot take classes that they might otherwise have, had they been further apart. To facilitate such planning and communication there is a calendar of future planned events that you can add to.

This egroup (camtango) may be used for advertising tango events that take place in Cambridge. If you are organising an event in Cambridge you must be able to post without delay/moderation (in case of last minute cancellations etc).
To arrange to post without delay/moderation please talk to Mike Rose, in person. Mike is usually available on Tuesdays during the social dancing, if this is not convenient then you can arrange to talk on another day/time with Mike. Mike will probably ask you some questions, with the aim of giving you the possiblity of making an informed decision about using this E-Group as an organiser.
(It's good to talk and you should expect a "yes" - postings from organisers who do not seek to make this arrangement will be ignored)

Please note that this group was setup with the intention of it being a low traffic group about tango in Cambridge so please exercise restraint regarding the number and frequency of postings about tango you are organizing. For example for a special event (guest teachers/all-nighter) post 1 month, 2 weeks, 1 week and 2 days before the event. For regular events post when they start and finish (e.g. closure of a regular salon over the summer) or when something is special about the regular event (e.g. a guest DJ).

It is suggested that postings about events:

  • originate from an organiser: people will, invariably, hit the reply button in their email software and it is much better that replies go directly to the organiser(s)
  • be correct
  • be easy to read
  • specify at least the time, date, venue and price
  • potentially include a link(s) to further information
  • be from a "communicating and co-operating" organiser who communicates with other organisers

If you have any questions about this please come and talk to us.
