Tuesday drop-in Theme Class

where, when and how much

We aim to offer a guest teacher (or pair of teachers) on one Tuesday theme class each month.

Tuesday Date

Class (8:00pm - 9:00pm - prompt)

DJ

9th March 2010

Tango Language

Is tango:
  1. a leader and a follower, with the leader deciding what is done and the follower making the movements.
  2. a language that both leader/follower speak, where the ideas, creativity and initiative for the dance are a music of communication between the two dancers.
We like option 2. For this we think that some skills are needed from the other role. E.g. followers with some of the leading skills can then engage, more easily, in option 2.
How to do this?
Come along and find out. (Mike and Annette)

Aesthetic of Tango

27 August 2002

Close Embrace 1

This is a very beautiful way to dance with a close and intense connection. Some people say that it is only tango dancing when you dance in close embrace, and with good reason as it is lovely. Dancing in close embrace is also good to know as in most more established tango communities (10 years and more)a good half of the people will dance in close embrace all of the time (such as in Berlin, London, Portland, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Copenhagen, Malmo, Lund). In this first class we will look at posture, weight change and walk and maybe with a wee surprise at the end.
20 August 2002

X-steps 3

06 August 2002

X-steps 1

We are always being asked about "The Cross", that is step 5 of the boring Basic 8. "The Cross" is only one possible closed X-step in tango. We will first learn how to lead and follow these subtle movements and to incorporate them into improvised dancing. We will cover the 2 closed forwards X-steps in this class. We will then run through the Basic 8, because the majority of tango teachers throughout the world use it.
