Quicksteps - shoes made for men/leading

A quote from a happy purchaser of a pair of men's tango shoes:

"The dance shoe maker is called Quicksteps and the telephone number is 0116 2517117. I don't know the guy's name. My shoes were not exactly made to measure. What he did was let me try some on, that showed the difference between my foot arch height and his usual last and he then cut out a little more full-y for me. He also put a more solid sole having seen those you lent me. I really like them. They have more guts than the usual ones and still only cost £35. He also let me feel and choose the leather for the uppers which i wanted to be like gloves, very soft and giving. it's just a couple in a small back street factory. The guy you meet makes the shoe then rings you a very few weeks later. Perhaps it is a case of "He only grows for guys he knows and me", but I doubt it! "

Some milongas in London often have tango shoes available for viewing at the door. The Dome had some nice shoes available last time I visited.

Some helpful advice from a Cambridge tango dancer now in Germany:

" I can recommend 2 shops in Berlin that have shoes from Buenos Aires:

1. ZAPATOS DE BAILE Wissmannstr. 4, 12049 Berlin, +49 30 62 72 01 47 www.zapatosdebaile.de

This one specialises (nearly exclusively) in Tango shoes; run by a nice chap who dances tango himself. It's in or near Kreuzberg. A "Tango fashion" boutique (skirts, dresses etc) is integrated / just next door. At least when the owner has been to (or received his stock? - he said he goes himself) from B.A. recently, this is probably the first one to try. We got Frederique's - really very beautiful - pair here, and my "crazy red ones".

This shop, in Charlottenburg, has much other dance equipment except tango shoes, but also quite a nice selection of Buenos Aires tango shoes which are in part similar to those at Zapatos de Baile, and is definitely worth looking at. I got the more classic (black) one of my 2 pairs here. "

I have discovered a nice website for ordering matte. I think their stuff is delicious. www.goodnessdirect.co.uk Go to 'drinks' and then 'tea'. Unfortunately it is called Cotswolds Mate Tea. However, their supplier is Yerba in Argentina, so it should be the real thing. You can get it in hand tea bags or as loose tea. - info provided by Debbie Pearson.
